Family
She was born and raised in Houston, Texas by immigrant Chinese parents.
Shi also has 2 older siblings and was introduced to modelling by her older sister who was also a model.
Before Fame
Her older sister Angel had been modeling with a local Texas agency and had started when Shi was 7 years old. When she was 13, a scout at her sister’s agency encouraged her to take modeling training classes, even though she was only 5’7″ at the time. When she hit a growth spurt at 16, she was introduced to some of the best agencies in New York and ultimately decided to go with IMG.
Career
Shi started modelling professionally at the age of 16 and was later signed to IMG models. Her first modelling job was Alexander Wang’s 2019 resort. Shi was encouraged to take modelling classes at the age of 13, by a scout at her sister’s agency. Shi practiced for 4 years to develop her own walk and drew inspiration from models such as Mariacarla Boscono, Natasha Poly, Vittoria Ceretti and Kaia Gerber. In 2021 Shi appeared on the American Vogue’s Cover along with Bella Hadid and Precious Lee. Shi walked 39 shows during the fashion week 2022–2023 season, more than any other model.
Trivia
She practiced for four years to perfect her own type of walk. She would watch videos of other models after school: Mariacarla Boscono, Natasha Poly, Vittoria Ceretti, and Kaia Gerber. She has also been working on a college degree in marketing.
